This beautifully painted blue and green cabinet is from Xinjiang Province, a region in Northwest region of China, where the Uyghur people live. The style of their furniture is closer to Turkish and Morocco aesthetics than to those of Northern China. This piece is from the 1950s. It has recently been lightly restored in an artisan workshop in rural Beijing and fitted with a removable inner shelf. The geometric pattern is carved into the wood and then painted and protected with a gloss finish.
