This vintage Shanghai kitchen cupboard dates from circa 1920. It is vertically divided in two compartments, each fitted with an internal shelf. The two compartments are separated by two drawers. The aired top compartment was designed to keep food supplies well-ventilated at a time when fridges were not yet available. This beautiful piece has recently been lightly restored in an artisan workshop in rural Beijing and given an irregular blue-green finish on the dark brown wood that makes for a stunning textured appearance.
